Anyone else sick and tired of New Year’s resolutions, both personally and professionally? By the time the calendar flips, we’re all pretty over big goals. Small changes, on the other hand, are much easier to take on—and can have a big impact on your career.
For example:
Be Kind. We say this a lot, and we really mean it. Being kind is one of the best (and easiest) small things you can do to help your career. It doesn't take much effort, and we promise you'll gain much more than you give.
Take a Test. If you feel stuck in your job or worry that your career isn't moving in the right direction, you can take a free career quiz (or two) to get some ideas for what else you could do.
Update Your LinkedIn Profile. There’s a lot you can do to improve your LinkedIn profile in just a few minutes and it’s worth the investment. Start by seeing if you’re making any of these LinkedIn mistakes.
Revamp Your Resume. Take a few minutes and make sure your resume is up-to-date and includes your current employment, education, professional development, and skills. Proofread and edit to make sure it's perfect and ready to go. A few small changes can have a big impact.
Don't Waste Your Time on Resume Hacks. Please don't believe the posts that tell you that hacking your resume can help you get hired. It won't. In fact, it might even knock you out of contention for a job.
Be Selective in Your Job Search. There are thousands of job sites, and you don't need to use every single one of them. Instead, focus your search on the best sites for where you're at in your job search.
Practice Interviewing. Interviews can be scary even when you've gone on lots of them. If you need to up your interview game (and even if you don't), it's worth spending a little time practicing. You can use free online interview tools to get ready for the real thing.
Take a Nap. When all else fails and you're tired, discouraged, or stressed, a nap can make a world of difference. You can reset your brain, improve your ability to learn, and even get healthier.
